Gabriel Kerfoot (b.1999) is an abstract painter residing in London. He graduated with a bachelors degree in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins in 2021.
Gabriel’s paintings visualise ethereal atmospheres inspired by the transient yet meaningful instances of interpersonal connection felt whilst experiencing the sublime. In his paintings these moments are held within the frame of sacral-inspired architecture to symbolise their inherent value set against the dehumanising nature of today’s society and systems.
Gabriel takes much of his inspiration from the sociological concept of ‘Third Place,’ particularly harmonic auditory environments connected to rave culture and the electronic music realm. His work pays homage to the way in which these microcosms resonate with secular spiritual understandings of inner emotional presence, and our ability to unite in a shared search for serenity.
“Within my works, you will encounter yearning figures, solitary or moving towards one another—an autobiographical representation of my own pursuit of inner harmony. Yet, they also symbolise our collective quest for presence, contentment, and peace in our everyday lives” - Kerfoot
